chidzambwa_sundayCONTRACT talks between ZIFA and Warriors coach Sunday Chidzambwa have stalled over his pay demands, New Zimbabwe.com can reveal.

Chidzambwa’s contract ran out on November 15, just days after he led Zimbabwe to COSAFA Cup glory.

The ZIFA board is expected to meet on Friday to discuss Chidzambwa’s future after the two sides failed to reach a deal on the former Dynamos coach’s personal terms.

Despite threatening not to renew his contract, saying he had “done his part”, Chidzambwa has signalled he could stay on if ZIFA match his salary expectations.

ZIFA boss Wellington Nyatanga said on Thursday: "We have many issues to discuss at the board meeting and of course the contract of the national team coach will also be one of the issues to be discussed.

“His contract expired on November 15 but he is still with us because we are still talking. He has not said he does not want to coach the team. We will see the way forward after our board meeting.”

A close friend to the coach said: "It's just the money issue. He has not said he does not want to coach anymore, but he wants the money to be right. This is why it has taken this long to get it done.”

Chidzambwa had been asked to go as an adviser with Under 23 coach Norman Mapeza to the CECAFA tournament in Kenya by his employers, but did not make the delegation.

Zimbabwe are inactive in international football after failing to qualify for next year’s World Cup Finals and the Africa Cup of Nations.
