Rising junior goalkeeper Kenny Mumba was the hero of the night as the youngster saved three penalties to help a 10-man Zambia Olympic Team tame Cameroun’s Indomitable Lions in the opening game of the Olympic International Tournament in Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday night.

After going down 0-1 earlier in the game, the Zambians dominated the second half. The young Zambians created a myriad of chances but were frustrated by poor officiating which highly incensed coach Lucky Msiska.

Zambia was on the receiving end of three red cards – coach Msiska being sent off for ‘trying to reason with the referee over persistent off-side calls’ and team manager Jeff Chipilingu. Captain Derrick Mwansa was also sent off but that did not stop a rampaging Zambia equalizing through Innocent Mwaba.

As the two teams headed to the change rooms tied 1-1 at the end of regulation time, match officials and organizers called the game to extra time and penalty shootout.

Goalie Mumba stopped three penalties as the shoot-out went to sudden death.

Nemoni Nyirenda scored for Zambia as did Christopher Munthali and Stephen Kabamba.

White Mwanamwambwa and Stanley Nshimbi failed to convert their spot-kicks.

Zambia plays Morocco tomorrow in the next game.
